About this trip
Seven days from Tunis to the Sahara and back to the coast near Sousse. You see Carthage and Sidi Bou Said, the Bardo Museum, the Roman sites of Thuburbo Majus, Dougga and El Djem, the medina and Great Mosque of Kairouan, the oases of Tozeur and the troglodyte dwellings of Matmata. On day 5 you travel to Douz for a camel ride and a night in a Sahara camp, with a campfire. Optional extras include quad biking or horse riding in the desert and a 4x4 safari through the dunes. The tour suits anyone who wants to combine history, culture and desert scenery in one week. The pace is brisk: you change place almost every night, so expect plenty of travel time between the sights.
